Join us for 24 hours of raising our voices in harmony and making it count!
Gaia Music Collective & Make Music New York are excited to be partnering to put on our first ever 24-HOUR 🌎 SING FOR THE EARTH 🌍. This joyous celebration of music, nature, and community will take place in NYC on the Summer Solstice, June 21st! Inspired by the tradition of Bobby McFerrin’s Unbroken Circle, the idea is to gather for 24 hours of nonstop music-making in honor of our planet, including circle singing, improvisation, participatory performances, music games, dancing, and whatever else we can think of to keep the song spinning.
This singing marathon is *FREE*, and along with this free registration, we are inviting you to participate in our “sing-a-thon” pledge system to raise money for the planet! This model allows your family, friends, and workplaces to raise pledge money and support you as you sing. (For example, you could ask your company to pledge $5 per hour that you sing, so that the longer you sing, the more money we raise! 💸) This will be the first experiment of its kind for us, but we’re excited about the potential of making a real impact with this model.
100% of the proceeds from this event will go to support charities doing conservation and environmental justice work. These non-profit organizations, serving both the local and international scale, are working tirelessly to heal both our precious planet and & groups of marginalized humans who are being disproportionately affected by climate change. They are doing amazing work, and with funding being cut left and right, they need our help!
🌱 Grow NYC – providing underserved communities with access to fresh local produce and green space
🏡 The American Indian Community House – serving indigenous folks in the city and building an upstate education center to share American Indian wisdom
🌳 Rainforest Foundation US – empowering indigenous leaders to steward our rainforests and protect wildlife
Still, even more than raising funds, we believe that the true power of this event will be in the people we gather and the music we make. We are excited about gathering a community of singers from around the globe to sing in harmony for 24 hours straight, and to make it matter. And we would love you to be a part of it!
This event will be led by an incredible cohort of international song leaders & facilitating artists, bringing together musical traditions from around the world (including Brazil, Portugal, Argentina, Colombia, Spain, Sweden, India, Haïti, Chile, Cuba, Ireland, Poland, Democratic Republic of Congo, The Philippines, Italy, Moldova, Palestine, Israel, China, Korea, Honduras, El Salvador, The United States, Hawai’i, Lebanon, and beyond).
